OBITUARY - DEATH NOTICE

I don't know why but I am asked regularly:  Is an Obituary required?  NO

What Public Death Notice is required by California law?   NONE. 

Of course, processing the estate (assets) of a decedent through the system (Probate / a Trust) may require notices; giving notice to knwon creditors may be good / appropriate, but as a general rule, no public death notice is required.

I heard a story about a Daughter who did not want anyone to see it, so she put it in on a Monday (the lightest day of the week).  I asked why she spent the money to publish something she did not want anyone to see; she thought it was required by law.
